some info on cremation or burial of babies.

Here is something that may be the connection.Uttrakhand is far up the Himalayan mountains and has age old customs. I asked an Uttrakhandi about the matter:why not cremate the young babies?
he says this:
Anyone whose janeo ceremony has not been done, has not been bathed in milk and all to that is, is considered impure. Such a one is not given the honour of a cremation but is buried or buried in water as he put it.
Usually young male children get a ceremony at the age of eight or around, but the ceremony may not have happened even when the child is an adult in some cases. In that case even such a one will not be given a cremation if he dies.Nor can he cremate his father himself, do the honours that is.
It seems all castes do janeoo.
Young women if they die before their marriage are given a watery burial. If married they are cremated.
This may mean that janeoo wearers were a different nation i personally feel.

I am still not clear why children cannot be cremated OR are not cremated?
