Gurbakhsh singh ji’s daughter?

Standard

A lot of interest in that!
A recent trip to Bathinda for a natural kheti programme and the organiser mistakenly announced: gbs daughter is here…the press came wishing to meet the daughter!in the hot hot sun! Had to be told no this is a grand dau in law..the intt in the new gens is bec of shiv batalvis great poem, sung by himself as well as jagjit singh, rabbi…an older lady in england/usa had refused to come meet the same gran dau in law in loyalty to shiv batalvi, our great great poet of punjabi.
This lady, his muse,is nearly 80today, lives in far off south america.
She too has a loyalty to shiv batalvi, for whose sake she sits every evening at a certain time , to look and talk to a star that she has decided is Him.
She valued this penpusher dau in law ,writing in here, enough so as to give her side of the story that shook the punjabi world too much!
Perhaps she thought it was the last time she was visiting india.she may be right, she may not visit again, seeing her age.
Something tells me she needs me to speak for her while she is still very much amongst us.
She may love to have the loving forgiveness, acceptance of the community at large, for a daughter of the community!why would she tell me otherwise?!
Young women like her are many now a days, but back then, she was nearly a 100 years advanced, so to speak.
She, a young widow, whose late husband had killed himself in a fit of what can only be called ,perhaps, inadequacy….people saw her shattered…the poet shiv had a great heart for even
Loona, the medieval villainess he has immortalised, how could he have been left untouched?
The romance was perhaps inevitable..but the girl widow was asked by her father the great writer if she was interested in marriage with this brilliant person…and the young widow was not at all sure if that was what she wanted….in fact she could not see herself his wife. the father then asked her to go abroad and study, instead of carrying on something that was sure to bring not only sorrow but also further disrepute in this feudal set up, perhaps.she went. He was inconsolable.it wasnt to be. He asked about her even in his last days.
She brought him happiness,i told her, even if it was brief he valued it. He should have been more of a sportsman and she less of a material comfort seeker perhaps.so what? The young need to be forgiven. They were excellent parents and spouses in their respective lives.the lady went especially to visit shivs family, accepted their love humbly.shivs wife is not just a woman, she is a great woman.
But the old lady in south america needs to be accepted as a daughter and perhaps as the queen of the heart of a great poet, even though he must have met many queens in his life! Love , let us celebrate it, even if it was not to be,for it s the Lord of the world.

  1. Poonam ji, Plz provide me d photograph of Dr. Gurbaksh Singh Preetlari daughter, same girl the great poet shiv kumar batalvi fall in love at some decades ago.

  2. thank u so much poonam ji for giving this piece of information about that lady. We all always wanted to know about her. It must have been very tormenting for her to be considered the reason for his death all these years. Since she has met Shivji’s family and if they understood her then she doesnt require anybody else’s forgiveness. Because of her we got to read great works by an extraordinary poet. She too is a great person that she considered it appropriate to meet the family of that great poet once. Thank you so myuch again.

  3. This daughter of GSP should come forward, release some pictures and information of those times. She owes that to all of us who are Shiv’s fans and weep with him and for him after listening to his creations, imaginations and frustration. Only the ones who ever felt pain of separation in their lives and had gone through feeling of helplessness can really feel his sad songs and understand his mind. He tried to keep it a secret for her sake as much as he could have. At least she should get that of her chest now before she is silent for ever, if not already.
Shiv was a gifted poet and we feel his desperation and frustration as that was his life. I am sure if he lead a Very Happy Life we must have been still listening to his Songs/Poems through a different emotion perhaps on different subject.

      • For preetnagar from amritsar: by own vehicle- follow mall road towards the university Back Gate. Take the same road forward to village mahal. Same road goes to RAM tirath. Continue on this . Chogawan, lopoke will come. Only from lopoke do we turn and only one km away is preetnagar. Total distance from asr is about 25 km. good roads.
If by bus, ask for bus to lopoke chogawan. They start from inside the bus stand near the gate near the gt road.

  4. Dear Poonam ji, Shiv’s love story and his inspiration is a treasure of the nation and especially Shiv’s fans across the globe. Please discuss the matter once again with lady love and release her version of this tragic love story. This has far greater importance than the stories of heer-Ranjha, Sassi-Punnu, Mirza-Sahibaan……

  5. Wow ! Reading this blog brings me back to those days years and years ago when I started reading
PREETLARI when I was in my 7th grade. I ended up reading almost all of his books during my early young formative years.
I am aware that I was much affected and influenced by Sardar G.S. of PREETLARI.

Later on I got into Bertrand Russell and the rest but G.S.ji left the indelible subtle prints on my
ways of looking at things and thoughts. My respects to him
Now I would like to know more about his children and even visit PREETLARI nagar
