Preet Lari, a Punjabi language magazine, once published in four languages, was founded by Gurbakhsh Singh in 1933 and the word means Love LInk.It seeks to link people of all races, nations and ages through reasonable, loving and positive thinking aimed at the general good of all.
His son Navtej Singh joined him and brought in a feeling for the oppressed. The times were those that promised to bring equality of opportunity for everyone.Navtej Singh became a voice for the oppressed and the underdogs of the world. His sweet concern touched many a heart and they dared to dream. He died quiet young at the age of 56, of cancer. To the surprise of all, Navtej Singh’s second son, Sumeet Singh, then 27,a young story writer and avid reader of Kafkian and the then contemporary Indian literature took on the mantle and was in a sense an early postmodernist, drawing on all pre-modern traditions as well, to stand up for abiding values of human beings and projecting the humane spirit in all its variety and glory.Sumeet Singh was done to death at the young age of 30 at the hands of fanatics killing in the name of what they said was their religion.
Poonam Singh, his widow and later married as custom allowed and encouraged to Rati Kant Singh, a young brother of Sumeet’s, have been editing and publishing this magazine for the last 26years now. They were assissted by many sections of society as were eager to see the values passed on by generations well established for the future generations too.
